First of all, I’m not the fashion guru. In this article, I’m not trying to show you how to dress up on how to make an extreme makeover. There are some youtube is that you can watch to do that, which I’ll talk about them later. But for now, let’s clear the concept of changing your body.
It is not about surgical procedure, or a TV extreme makeover. Your body is a reflection what you think about yourself. For example, professional people always dress very professional. They use a amazing suits, and combine all their clothes really nice. They take care of having shiny shoes, and proper haircut, etc.
It is necessary for them, because they have too show and image to their clients. That is, an image of success and had been day DM of knowing what they want in life. This is social psychology. You may disagree me (I actually thought different 10 years ago), but you have to realize you are not alone in this world, you leaving a community, and you are part of it. It is not about what people think of you, and letting it affect you. It is about showing what you desire to be or what you want to show to the world about yourself. For example, that’s why many rock stars dress so cool. They are always ahead of fashion, because they represent fashion. They represent a lifestyle of excesses, by over dressing themselves. Can you imagine a rock star dress with the big white T-shirt and a pair of old jeans? Maybe in the 80’s, but now, it is unthinkable.
My point is, you need to change your idea of dressing, and show the way you want to be. So, if your dream means to be, rockstar, you need to dress like a rock star. Even when your path and say it’s wrong, or in appropriate, you are reflecting what you desire in life. It is not to be like colors, but to try to show your real person on the outside. When you don’t take care of yourself on the outside, what you are saying now about yourself, is that you are not taking care of yourself on the insight. Yes, I know all the excuses about having kids, or don’t have in time for make up, or don’t have the money to buy clothes, but they are just excuses. You really desire something, you can achieve it. For example, I don’t like to spend too much money in cloth, but I like to look good. So, I always go on a Sunday morning to look for bargains on clothes stores. Once I found in Kohls, an amazing pair of sandals for just three bucks. So it is not about the money, or not making time, it is about how much you want it.
By the away, there is always an extreme. I was making examples of people who don’t take care of themselves on the outside. However, there are also people who over take care of themselves. This is what we call vanity. I’m not trying to judge anyone, but I believe that there is a lot of people who uses the outside, their body, as a tool of acceptance on society. More than trying to reflect themselves, they are trying to fit a profile or social role. This is not what I’m talking about. You are a unique person, with unique characteristics.
So think about looking good for you. Your self-esteem need will start to rise. You will be more social, and therefore you will satisfy your social needs. You can have more friends, by being social, and maybe helping them achieve their goals or overcoming depression. Again, self-realization needs are satisfied. So we have a fullfilling circle working in our favor here.
Another element of changing your body is exercising. More than changing your body for the looks, think about staying healthy. Running or walking at least 30 minutes a day is a great way to boost your immune system, and to work your internal organs. Sedentarism is a disease in the US. It is a cultural dilemma. However, remember you are capable of changing your life. You can check out how to start working out, with the previous article on changing your habits to change your life.
By exercising, you’re not the only becoming healthier. You are developing your virtudes. For example, you are developing for persistence. This will help you in life, because not everything will work perfect. Sometimes, you will need to be patient and persist on your goals. By working out your body, you are working out your mind.
The last resource to change your body is surgical procedure. I think it is great for people who had accidents, and became hurt physically by it. It will really help them, to feel more confident about themselves, and to build the self-esteem they may have lost in the accident. However, I have a different opinion for people who are okay. Let me tell you an experience from my family. One of my towns, decided to operate her nose, because she thought it was too big. She thought everything would change when she operated. However, nothing changed. She was the same person, her husband look at her the same way, and nothing changed. There are people who believe that by having a surgical makecover, they will feel better about themselves. But I thing it is more an issue of acceptance. We see a lot of beautiful people on TV and on the media, and we believe it is the reality. Obviously, it is not your day are models, artists or actors, whose job it is to appear to be someone else. They may show a happy face, but deep inside they may be as depressed as everybody else. Think about the example of Britney Spears. She had it all. Beauty, money, a family, husband, fame, etc. However, she thought about suicide and committed acts that we all know about. I believe she was asking for help. What we can learn about her, is that all those things we think will bring us happiness, are lies. Happiness comes from the inside, and to achieve happiness, you need to accept yourself just the way you are.
Hopefully, if you were thinking about having a surgery, you changed your mind. However, let me know what you think and send me an e-mail.
