overcoming depression
Are you working on overcoming depression? Here are 33.5 easy and effective solutions to change your life and finally end your depression.

1. Understand there are good and bad days

Some days you feel like nothing can stop you. Other days you feel utterly hopeless. Most of the time you’re somewhere in between. Understanding the pattern of positive and negative emotions will help you put your feelings in perspective. Next time you feel down, remember it will go away. It is not permanent.

Look right now for an image of the Earth. Look how big and magnificent it is. Now think about you. Do you think you are important in this world? Not really. Then, why are you so depressed?! Think about what you have done in your life. Even when you will tend to go back and look at it, as a failure, take a few minutes to remember your past accomplishments and build yourself up. What have you learn in your experience? Use it now, know you can succeed again overcoming depression.

4. Appreciate yourself.

help for depression
Need help for depression? Here are some guidelines that can help you deal with depression…

I found a great article about the relation between support, control, and the social patterns of depression. Most people ask for help for depression, thinking they can do it all by themselves. However, support from others is necessary to stop feeling depressed. This is what the research found out:

“Research on the social patterns of depression in the community finds consistently that high levels of education and income, being male, and being married are associated with lower levels of depression. We attempt to explain these patterns as the result of two essential social perceptions: the sense of controlling one’s own life rather than being at the mercy of powerful others and outside forces, and the sense of having a supportive and understanding person to talk to in times of trouble.

In theory, the sense of control reduces depression because it encourages active problem solving, and the sense of support reduces depression because it provides others to talk to. We find evidence for the first proposition: persons who feel in control of their lives are more likely to attempt to solve problems.

Perceived control and problem solving decrease depression and largely explain the effects of income and education on depression. We find, however, that support has mixed effects.

Support decreases depression, but talking to others when faced with a problem, which increases with the level of support, increases depression.

Self Help for DepressionCan you make it on your own? Is self help for depression possible, without asking for help? Read this story to find out…

I found a story about a young boy who committed suicide because all the bulling he was dealing with in his school. His name was Jared Benjamin High, you can read the whole story here. The point is, Jared wasn’t able to find out how to overcome his depression. He didn’t ask for help. Maybe, he just didn’t know he could.

I want you to know this: it is ok to ask for help. You can do it on your own, but you need someone to show you how.  Looking for self help for depression is not a lonely road. Here are some of the lessons I learn by myself, I want to share with you, so you don’t get to become another Jared.

1. Ask for help to people who love you

Very common, we ask for help for depression on the wrong place. For example, asking a “buddy” for advice, when he or she actually doesn’t care. You need to think about the people who really love you, cares for you. There is always someone to count on, but be sure to pick the right person. And when you ask for help, tell the truth. Don’t try to hide the facts or your true feelings, get them out, let the other person know how you feel. Share your feelings, even when they are negative.

overcoming depression

Can depression kill you? How can you overcome depression in the right moment?

I was reading one of the chicken soup for the soul stories, about overcoming depression. There is a story about depression and suicide, in which a mother starts researching why her daughter Arlyn killed herself. She then understood that it was an escape from emotional pain. She explained it like this: “it was as though her heart was carrying a heavy weight, and it became unbearable”. By suiciding, she was looking for help for depression.

I don´t remember where I hear this, but I think it is a very profound phrase, we can use to understand why is depression caused and how to overcome depression. “Things happen”. You may be saying, “Ok, where is this going?” Things happen in life all the time. Sometimes, what we call good things, and sometimes bad things. However, as humans we have the tendency to overreact to bad things, and to forget about the good ones. For example, when was the last time you realized you are lucky to be healthy? Think about all the people dying in a hospital because of a terrible disease like cancer or aids, and thinking “I would give anything to be ok again”. Or even how lucky we are to have food in our table. If you are using Internet, most probable you have at least one meal a day.
